Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encode the info exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to preserve the information which site visitors submit on your Internet site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, etc. Any info they enter in any box on the website will be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment details shall be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Usually, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, meaning that the overall cost for your web presence will be bigger. While this may not be a problem for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store which doesn't generate big revenue if additional money should be spent. This is the key reason why we've taken advantage of an extension referred to as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Web Hosting
Given that we offer SSL certificates with our web hosting
solutions, you can very easily secure your site and use a shared IP address with just a few clicks. The option shall be available during the order procedure, therefore if you have a dedicated IP, you'll be able to use it, but if you don't have one and you do not want to pay for such a service, you can use the shared IP, that has been set up especially for SSLs. The certificate will work in the same exact way as if it had a dedicated IP and the one difference will be that if anyone tries to open the IP address as a URL, they'll not see your Internet site. Since our system includes an auto-configuration option, the SSL shall be installed automatically as soon as it is issued, so you shall not have to do anything on your end after you approve it. In this way, you could have a secure and trustworthy Internet site without having to spend extra cash for that.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Any SSL certificate can be used with our specifically set up shared IPs, therefore if you have a semi-dedicated hosting
account, you can use this option with simply a few clicks when you install a certificate that you obtain through us or through any other dealer. For the SSLs that we offer you can also take advantage of an additional function and have our system set everything up for you. Thus once you approve the SSL, the shared IP shall be set for the specific domain name
or subdomain and the certificate shall be installed without any action expected on your end, so any info that site visitors submit on your website will be secure. The SSL shall perform in the exact same way no matter if it is set on a shared or a dedicated IP address and the 1 thing which is different between the two setups is that inputting the shared IP address as a URL in an Internet browser won't open your site.
