There are various ways to redirect a domain to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. When you own a domain name and you have created a site using some online service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you will achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned Internet site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is essential to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop working, so you cannot have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and working email addresses with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and sometimes further configuration may be required with the other company.
CNAME Records in Web Hosting
In case you have a web hosting plan through our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted within your account through the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with each plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which is CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this type of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have created a site using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, such as Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks within your Control Panel.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server from our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will take only a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will see a section committed to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted in the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter is going to be directed to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within a few hours. Changing or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is just as simple and takes a click. If you experience any issues, you can go through our detailed help article, see the short video on the subject that we have added in the CP, or you can just contact us for assistance.
